Seven Billion Stories

We all tend to think of ourselves as the star character in our own personal story. But how often do we think about all the other stories that are being told? With over 7 billion people on the planet, each of them telling their own story, that is a lot of stories that you and I will never get to hear.

The Great Divide

Have you ever noticed? Every time there is an “event” we sit on our phones or computers hitting “refresh” anxious to see the latest pictures, read the latest updates, hear the most recent “takes” on the situation by whatever talking head, pundit or agitator is out there spouting off about it. It is as if... Continue Reading →

Thoughts from a Home Improvement Aisle

I have a confession. I absolutely adore home improvement stores. Home Depot, Lowes, Hammond Lumber, Hancock Lumber, it doesn’t matter which, and it’s not just the garden section that draws me. I love wandering around the store, going up and down the rows, looking at all the paints and hardware, the organizational supplies, and tools;... Continue Reading →

Dearest Tuesday

Dearest Tuesday, I have seen so many of your brothers and sisters come and go. Some I’ve loved, and some I’ve hated. Some have sped by so fast I got whiplash. Others dragged their feet so slowly I wanted to kick them for being so boring. All of them have the reputation of actually being... Continue Reading →

The Cry of the Crow

The only thing I can do, the only thing any of us can do, is to address the fear and pain, the suffering and injustice that is presented to us on a daily basis. Face it without flinching. Accept our role and do whatever we can, no matter if it is nothing more than putting a band aid on the skinned knee of a child, holding the hand of a loved one lost in the depths of dementia, offering a meal to a homeless person, listening to a friend who is attempting to work through a bad break up, or making a dying crow’s last minutes on earth as comfortable as possible.

The White Knight Complex

"Don't get dependent on that Knight in Shining Armor.  All being rescued does is remove you from your immediate circumstances.  It does nothing to address the question of how the devil you ended up in that situation to begin with."  ~SSHenry Why is it that in every fairy tale that features a princess there is... Living in the Moment

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.  ~Buddha When I first heard the phrase “living in the moment” I found myself laughing sadly and shaking my head at the gullible fools who would buy into something so inane.  Live in the moment?  What fool would... Swish and Flick

THE MAGIC OF MANIFESTATION Wouldn’t it be marvelous if you had a magic wand?  Some sort of device that – if used properly – would bring you exactly what you want a la Harry Potter?  Just swish and flick and bingo, it’s yours!  Did you know that you actually possess the ability to do just... X Marks the Spot

YOU ARE HERE. How many times have we seen those words – usually on maps – and almost always accompanied by a large red X (with or without an arrow pointing to it) so that you know that THIS X, not some other random X, is the one you need to be paying attention to?... Continue Reading →

Authentic Living 201: Living Intentionally

There is a difference between living and living an intentional life. No, seriously, everybody lives.  Unless you’ve been in a serious accident and are fighting for every breath you take, living is not something you actually have to think about.  It simply happens, usually when you aren’t paying attention.  In fact, one day you look... The First Day of Forever

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams!  Live the life you’ve imagined.   ~ Thoreau It’s going to happen.  One morning you are going to wake up and realize that today is the first day of forever.  It will happen when you are ready for it to; this first day of forever. It will happen... Continue Reading →

The Earthworms Have Landed!

Once again its spring and I’m getting my front garden ready for planting.  It’s not a big patch, but I always like to take the time to make something unique and unusual out of it; something unexpected.  But even the simplest of changes requires some hours of work turning over dirt, removing weeds and getting... Trapped in an Infinite Loop

The whole universe is based on rhythms. Everything happens in circles, in spirals. ~John Hartford~ You’ve heard I am sure, of the circle of life. Anyone who has watched Disney’s “The Lion King” has found their eyes misting over at the beauty of that opening number. And while the concept of life renewing itself is... Continue Reading →

Mastering Emotional Mindfulness

Mastering the Emotional Storm Surge:  Five Steps to Emotional Mindfulness There are moments in everyone’s life when, no matter how mindful you are of your surroundings; no matter how determined you are to be rational; a passionate wave of emotion seems to sweep you away.  Anger; fear; lust bitterness; the emotion itself is not important. ...
